01 July 2018: It is with great sadness we announce the passing Jacques “Jack” Heroux on the 01 July 2018.

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jacques “Jack” Heroux after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Sunday July 1st, 2018 at the age of 70. Jack leaves behind to mourn his two daughters, Genny (Darrell Weisgerber) and Karen (Rob Lake); his 5 grandchildren – Peyton, Oreck, Brady, Sebastien, and Emma; his dearest lifelong friend Gilles, his friends Al, Rob, Betty and Gary, Joanne, Larissa, Cindy, John and Jill; his mother Elizabeth, and his siblings Roger, Huguette, and Dennis. He has now been reunited with his beloved wife Michelle “ma belle”.
In his youth, dad was a talented guitar player and vocalist and was passionate about his band, The Keys. He was always an avid fisherman and loved learning about and watching birds. As he grew older, his interests expanded to include culinary arts, knife sharpening, and making wine with his wife and daughter.
Jack had an amazing career in the RCAF, which brought him to Bagotville, where he met the future love of his life. The family then moved to Greenwood, Chatham, and finally Trenton where he retired from his career as a Flight Engineer on the Hercules aircraft. When asked about his time in the air force, he very fondly recalled his time with the Herc crews, travelling the globe. His favourite, by far, were the times he spent in Lahr. He spoke so highly of the German culture – the people, the music, the food, and the beer!
The last year of his life was spent in Karen and Rob’s home, where he enjoyed his daily coffee and lunch dates with Karen and the view of the birds visiting his many birdfeeders in the back yard. Genny and Jack’s siblings would like to express their most sincere gratitude to Rob, for jumping in without hesitation, for putting in countless hours to build a home for dad within your own, and for making so many adjustments as his needs changed. And to Karen, for adding to your role as loving daughter, the role of caregiver. Your many sacrifices are so very appreciated and will never, ever, be forgotten.
Genny and Karen would like to thank the following people for the support they have provided dad over the past year: Carrie Anne with South East LHIN and the many VON PSWs and Hospice volunteers who provided respite care; his primary nurse Linda; the palliative care team, led by Dr. Jennifer Webster; Marjorie and Jennifer from Veteran’s Affairs; his OT Doreen – thank you for your tireless efforts finding just the right equipment to suit his ever-changing needs. Bill and Antonia at Trenton Pharmacy have been more than just pharmacists to dad. They have always gone above and beyond to ensure dad had everything he needed and they became meaningful people in his life.
Lastly, we would like to thank Hospice Prince Edward in Picton. The relief we felt when we found you, in our most desperate hour, was immeasurable. To the staff and volunteers: we don’t know what we would have done without your compassion and commitment to our father in his last days. Words cannot express our gratitude.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask those who wish to make a contribution to consider making a donation in dad’s memory to Hospice Prince Edward by visiting their website at hospiceprinceedward.ca.
